Please answer a few questions to help us determine your eligibility.

Why It’s Important to Update Your Address

Failing to update your address can cause several issues, including:

  • Missing critical SSA notices or hearing dates
  • Delayed or lost benefit checks (if you receive them by mail)
  • Problems with Medicare enrollment or continuing disability reviews

Keeping your address current helps protect your benefits and ensures you stay in good standing with the SSA.

How to Change Your Address with SSDI

There are three main ways to notify the SSA of an address change if you live in Idaho and receive SSDI benefits:

1. Use Your SSA Online Account

The easiest and fastest method is through your personal my Social Security account. Log in and follow these steps:

  • Go to the “My Profile” section
  • Select “Update Contact Information”
  • Enter your new address and the date it should take effect
  • Save your changes

Changes usually take effect immediately or on the date you select.

2. Call the SSA by Phone

You can also report your address change by calling the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY: 1-800-325-0778). This option is helpful if you don’t have online access or need help making the change.

Representatives are available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

3. Visit Your Local SSA Office in Idaho

If you prefer to speak to someone in person, you can visit a local SSA office. Be sure to:

  • Bring your Social Security number and a valid photo ID
  • Check office hours and schedule an appointment, if needed

Use the SSA office locator online to find the nearest location based on your ZIP code.

Special Situations to Keep in Mind
  • If you have a representative payee, that person must report the address change on your behalf
  • If you're also receiving SSI benefits, be aware that SSI has additional reporting rules for address changes that may affect eligibility
  • Make sure to update your address with the U.S. Postal Service to avoid mail disruptions while SSA updates your file
